October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month
|Breast cancer, the most common cancer among women in the United States, is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer. It is found mostly in women, but men can get breast cancer, too.
This year, an estimated 182,460 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the United States. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chances that treatment will work. The goal is to find cancers before they start to cause symptoms.
Yearly mammograms for women 40 and older are the best chance to identify breast cancer early, before physical symptoms develop. Mammography is a preventive care benefit under DMC Care. Ask your doctor about the screening tests that are right for you.
